Do you have thoughts on God? I love to hear people's thoughts on the subject. I don't know, myself.
In the local news where I live, a 6 year old boy was sucked into a wood chipper in front of his family. If, “God loves his children”…he has strange way of showing it. Are we to tell his family that it was, ‘all part of God’s plan'? I don't mean to question what I could never understand-I don't. I just don't understand.
It depends on what your idea of God is. Is it just a creator of the Universe thing? Is it a benevolent being? A malevolent one? Personally, I think if there is such a thing as God, Lovecraft had the right idea. In his mythos, the being that created reality is simply an incredibly vast, unintelligent force of nature that exists outside our universe. It neither knows we exist, nor does it care, it doesnt know it exists itself. Humanity, in the grand scheme of the universe, are an infinitely small speck with delusions of grandeur, that desperatly tries to make themselves think their existance has any sort of impact on anyone but themselves and their immediate surroundings.
Thats all religion is really. That and a form of social control. That whole deal about Gods plan is a way of coping with life as a stream of random tragedies, so that you'll feel that your suffering amounts to something and will be made up for later, which of course, simply isnt true. That kid you mentioned? He's dead, for no reason other than bad luck. End of story. And is that really any worse than saying he died for some kind of twisted plan?
I don't believe in a God who kills family members, birds, gays, or wipes out countries with tsunamis just because he's pissed at somebody, by the way. Evangelists really piss me off, selling fear and angst to scare people into freezing so they can get into Heaven, when for the most part it's a social group based on who goes to the most expensive and awesome church. Yep, here in the Kentucky Bible Belt you get all kinds of crazy data on God. I personally go to a local Gay church (when we have a Sunday off), that I call a renegade band of faithfuls worshiping in a religion that doesn't really want them.

But seriously...all our debating aside. You have a small son yourself. This shook you to the core, didn't it? How are YOU dealing with this?
