The joke about the imperial standard comes from the fact that a friend of mine, who works in an important firm that builds heilcopters in Italy, is forced to use imperial standard measures when building them (e.g. for wrenches, cable sizes etc.), because the industry standards have been set in the USA. He hates it because, whenever he needs to change sizes from what is written on the manual, he has big problems understanding what is what.

If the riots in this fragile Venus base have escalated this far, then the water loss problem seems to me to be one of the less important of these people. And if the station's doxa doesn't intervene - hmm, maybe it considers the people in its care to be guinea pigs?

Doxa is not really the boss there, even if it looks so. The locals are self governing and have a senate (the two old guys who welcomed our heroes self described as senators), but they too are using the "disapproval" strategy.

I like describing things in meters rather than inches. Makes it sound bigger. Or course I'm way off on the measurements....

Eh, I've never learnt the imperial system.
