It's not everyday I slip they say it toughens you up. It really doesn't. It's unwanted noise especially when we didn't ask for it. It's worse coming from a person who doesn't get what the art world wants from us. Remember that when friends & famliy tell you your art is ‘pretty or ugly’. I'd rather have a disney thug tear my work apart than have another family member tell me my painting is ‘pretty’.

I completely hear you on the non-artist thing. I also have a non-art related job--sometimes not having art and work connected, despite the rough times, helps, you know? It can keep us from hating what we do.
