@Smiling Platypus, I'm using the 3rd entry from dictionary.com. asceticism - "rigorous self-denial; extreme abstinence; austerity" whether its for a higher spiritual existence or another purpose like love or to attract attention/sympathy.

You shouldn't have to explain it, but I'm a little confused. I'm familiar with asceticism being practiced to obtain a higher spiritual existence. Page 8.1 made more sense to me. Nevertheless, panel 4 has a very funny observation.
