Yea once those panels are fixed up this will start to look like a really nice comic. Also good job on the effects, most people don't get them down.
For the gradient make sure you select "Noise" on the drop bar, that way you can get the gradient to be multicolored, or multiple shades of a color.
Youre wasting a ton of space.
A good rule of thumb for paneling in photoshop is:
Make your background transparent (which I think you've done) and make the distance between each panel one width and height of those white and grey blocks. Not only does it look better, but its also a lot cleaner :D
