Sensational 7 Page 1

Scott 2008: Part of writing/drawing your first comic is learning how to execute a joke. How to take an idea in your head that made you laugh and portray it to other people in a context that will make them laugh.

Between 2001 and 2003 especially, it was a lot of trial and error.

Take, for instance, the Sensational 7's “base” The Fantastic Four were based out a skyscraper, the S7 have a trailer. Har har. No. There are about three, maybe four failed jokes on this page. I'd like to think I improved my successful-jokes-per-page average greatly by the end of this comic (which, like all subsequent Sensational 7 stories, was drawn without a script,) but here we get off to a nice awkward start.

As unfortunate as it is that I am here to point out all the awkward moments, it may be better than to let them stand on their own, without my acknowledgment. Looking back, it's important for me to be able to say, “That wasn't funny, I know that now.”
