@giovanni: In the past there was no difference between religion and state. It got mixed up in politics...
I don't believe people should pray to fit in. I think people should pray, yes, but for the right reasons. And that's to have a little chat with the Creator, because they want to... It shouldn't be something forced on someone for whatever reason.
Consumerism is really a way of living, and not a religion. I don't think anyone gets lasting fulfillment from buying things. Buying things is good for the economy and for the physical well being, but what about spiritually? That's why it's good to reconnect with God the higher being.
back in the past, pray to the local god and you were among the common men, don't and youre rejected
now its the same except replace "god" with "consumption" and it doesn't matter if you consume or not
I dunno. There wasn't TV, movies and internet back then, even books are pretty new things.
When there's not a lot of noise it gets easier to listen, and pray.
I think today we have a better capacity to understand what God wants from us, but I also that means its easier to tempt us.
You have to really wonder. How much time did people have in the past to pray? I mean back then they didn't have the comforts we have now.
Or distractions per say...
The thing about this whole individuality thing is we get lost in a sea of want. Mediocre is not allowed. Our "fast paced lives" require quick and sharp information.
Not sure if there really is less God now, or if that's just what is shown to us. But faith takes time and we just have too much on our plate to fit that in anymore as a society. What with texting and commenting on other people's comics :P
