Now back to the political discussion between the lords and ladies of King Falkimir's staff. Countess Orshia is reacting to Count Armen's statement that the Witch of Ashrack is a descendant of the last claimant to the High Kingship of Narthatheia.

There will be a page going over all the world building politics stuff but suffice to say the office of High King unites all the principalities of the two islands of Narthatheia. Currently it's broken up into a bunch of petty kingdoms and duchies.

The last High King died without male issue and after a generation without a male claimant the crown can only be awarded through election by a congress of the clergy of the islands. Many of the kings in Narthatheia are chosen through elections. Prince Thord for example is the heir to the kingdom of Nasnor but without a meeting of his vassals he can't be elected. And he's so weak that his vassals ignore his calls for the election. So Prince Thord cannot be crowned King Thord.

Bridnea however rules in one of the few kingdoms where the eldest son inherits. So sad that his elder brothers predeceased him and that his beloved father passed so tragically from an unfortunate fever. But this is only the first mention of him as he's not far from Severnus' mind as Severnus' half-brother rules the kingdom bordering Bridnea.

But all this may be too much too soon. In the first drafts all of this was dumped into this one scene. In this re-write it's going to be trimmed to keep things moving. One step at a time, one woman at a time as Falkimir says. He might be a little distracted there.
