Randomness -- Cover Page
darrell on April 11, 2012
I should probably start by explaining this page. The next 20 or so pages will be a few short stories that may seem random but actually tie into a few things I've touched on already and are going somewhere (I promise). Anyway, I wanted to do one cover/break page for all of them but couldn't come up with a good visual. So I decided just to throw some sketches together and call it a day. These sketches may or may not reflect what these characters will look like in the upcoming stories (but I will say that no, Master Mummy is not coming out of that guy's head). And don't worry about the art, though I will be trying a few tweeks here and there it won't be like this page. Next week, the return of Master Mummy.
And i want to thank those of you who are suggesting I look to make a living through comics (either the Bluenoser or something else). It means a lot to me that you think that highly of my work. I'll be honest, I have briefly entertained the idea of getting a “volume 1” printed up after I finish off this major story arch I have in mind (around page 120) but it would be a tough road with the small number of readers I have at the moment. And with all the great artists/comics out there that are struggling to survive I'm just not that confident that it would work for me. So for now I'll focus on the job search while using some of my newly free time to build up a bit of a buffer of pages. Hopefully you'll stick around and who knows, maybe one day there will be a Bluenoser volume 1 on your bookshelf.
Locoma - The funny thing is that when I first introduced Agent S I had no intention of making him out to be the character I've turned him into. He was going to be all nice and gentle. But sometimes things just work out differently. Though he will have a part to play in the next little bit I think he'll be taking on a somewhat larger role in “volume 2”.
ghostrunner - Thanks for the encouragement. I've had a couple people ask me about taking on some art jobs but it's all been “do it for the exposure” or for a small percentage of “future profits”. And I sometimes wonder if I'd be happy just writing comics.
shastab24 - Great, I'll put you down for a print edition if I ever do one. ;-) But you're right, I probably should look at adding some income from all this work. Even if it's not a lot it might help.
Peipei - … I can say nothing to that. :-)
jerrie and I am Candyman - Thanks!

Well, as far as exposure, remember that the Webcomic Cameo and Crossover Archive (http://crossovers.dragoneers.com) does a Halloween Cameo Caper every year. Getting involved in that can help raise viewers. To be involved in the caper, you only would need to do a page on (or near) Halloween that is in the setting and cameoing some of the characters, but some people do whole storylines. Comics who have been involved in previous years have been: The KAMics, Life and Death, Grin N Spirit, P.S.I., Mindmistress, Magical Misfits, Dawn of a New Era, Blade of Toshubi, D.D.S.R., and others I'm not currently thinking of. Considering the pedigree of some and the exposure of others, I would think it's a safe bet that such a thing can draw in readers. Of course, I'm nudging because I don't want to be the only superhero comic involved this year, and superheroes need to be represented with good art, anyways, since my art sucks.

heh the trick with exposure is finding someone who's on their way up. thats a trick and a half coming from someone who's done their best there
