Hate to build up this family so quickly, only for them to suffer even more quickly, but I thought a dose of the ‘real world’ would add impact!
.
So… Kimber Lee noticed the car but ‘accidently ignored’ it. I came up with this while thinking about a recent event that happened to me. I was approaching some train tracks. Off to the left I saw a train coming, not far away at all. I hearn its horn blowing. And I still crossed the track when it was probably only 50 feet away or so!! It's like my body just did it and the whole time my mind's going, ‘No No No!’. There was a short intersection on the other side, with flowing traffic, so I had to stop quickly. I bet there was only a few feet distance of between my vehicle and the train when it passed…!!
.
That was, and is still, unnerving!!

Thanks for Reading Everyone!

maybe next year perhaps they will listen to the kids and do Disneyland instead! ;)
KimLuster at 4:45AM, Oct. 2, 2015
@Peipei: yeah the kid was right - this is the worst vacation ever!
Peipei at 9:55PM, Oct. 1, 2015
Wow, it's not looking good for the kid...If he does make it out of this alive, he'll be an orphan at best :(...

hehe, Vicky and Batman did not stop slowly like a bungee jump - No, they came to a stop instantly, and Vicky lets out a cute little, 'Oh...!' Even worse, though, is Iron-Man's fight with Thor and Hulk in the Avengers movies. Tony Stark is just a normal man inside that suit, and his brain and organs still follow the laws of momentum, and that means if he splats into a mountain at high speed, the suit is now a blender with tomato paste inside! I get it - we gotta suspend disbelief in movies like that, but to me it's more interesting if they actually give a nod to physics instead of ignoring them completely!!
Banes at 5:51AM, Oct. 1, 2015
I remember that scene in Batman, too, for the same reason as you. My brain ALWAYS struggles to explain a scene like that when I see one. In Batman's case, I like to think his Bat Ropes have some elastic properties to them that slow a falling person down gradually - though in the scene you mention, I think they show her stopping very suddenly. Haha...I like this subject. After thinking it for years, it's nice too see it discussed!
Banes at 5:46AM, Oct. 1, 2015
Haha...like fly balls indeed! I'm a little more awake today...wanted to say that I might disagree with myself on Superman cushioning a fall in only a few inches; it's more like he reaches up and/or modulates his flight to cushion someone's fall within a few FEET. That's at least somewhat acceptable!
KimLuster at 6:50PM, Sept. 30, 2015
@Z74: Thank You! And trust me, that moment has stuck with me - I've been extremely careful around train-crossings ever since... But that day *shiver* mind and body just were not on the same page!!
KimLuster at 6:49PM, Sept. 30, 2015
@Banes: Thank You!! Yeah, Superman's had decades of practice - maybe in a couple chapters Kimber Lee will be catching people like fly balls!! :D
Z74 at 3:53PM, Sept. 30, 2015
nice page , and watch out for those trains ! I operate a locomotive in a plant rail yard, and trust me you don't want to get hit by one even going slow !
Banes at 2:46PM, Sept. 30, 2015
Wow!! Definitely did not expect this...well done though; this is the sort of thing that could surely happen with such powerful beings around. Agreed on the superhero physics problem...Superman gets a pass because I always assumed his impossible speeds would allow him to cushion the fall of the people he catches...like, he could cushion them with only a few inches of space to work with. Amazing, hard hitting page here!
KimLuster at 12:40PM, Sept. 30, 2015
lol I just noticed in the bottom-left panel - I put a right foot on a left leg...!! The Right Foot on the Wrong Leg!! Dang those mutating powers of The Godstrain!! :D
KimLuster at 10:24AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@FC: Well... He may not actually be trying to hit her! Stay tuned for next page... :)
KimLuster at 10:23AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@Tom: Yah still a chance to save the brat ;)
KimLuster at 10:23AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@El Cid: Yeah, superhero physics always bugs me... I remember the scene where Batman (Keaton) and Vicky Vale (Pfeiffer) are falling forever and Batman stops them mid-fall with a rope around their waists. I thinking, 'yeah, their intestines and all that's in 'em woulda kept on falling..!!' Same with Iron-Man! Don't care how tough your armor is - you slam into a mountain at 500 mph, your brain is going to keep travelling at 500 mph, right into the side of your skull!! I know, we're told if people can fly or jump continents, then we should ignore this stuff, but I like to think physics always rules EXCEPT when special powers/magic (which could be unknown physics) counters them!! Just makes it more enjoyable to me... Unless it's humor or a kid's show - then anything goes!!
fallopiancrusader at 8:02AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Eli isn't thinking straight. The hard car would have made a much more effective projectile than those squishy humans XD
Call Me Tom at 7:50AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Don't wory Kim you still have one third of the family left to save!
El Cid at 7:07AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Always wondered why superheroes don't end up mangling more people when they try to catch them mid-air like that. I mean, if they're falling one way, and you just jerk them up in the opposite direction, wouldn't that actually be worse than just letting them smack into the ground? Takes some superhero practice to get the right technique down, I think.
KimLuster at 6:23AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@tupapayon: Exactl...err... Maybe! :D
KimLuster at 6:23AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@bravo: Exactly!
KimLuster at 6:23AM, Sept. 30, 2015
@plymayer: Exactly!
tupapayon at 6:14AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Oh no!... don't risk your life... you can't die until you finish this story... then start another, so you won't die until you finish that one... then you start a new so you wouldn't die until you finish the new one... that's the Scheherazade technique...
bravo1102 at 4:45AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Oh my God. He's taunting her. It's like how General Zod taunted Superman in the second movie! SHe cares about the people and feels that obligation to protect. She must escape to her Fortress of Solitude to consider her options.
plymayer at 4:35AM, Sept. 30, 2015
Never mess with on coming trains. Bad things can happen.
plymayer at 4:34AM, Sept. 30, 2015
He's trying and achieving getting her attention.
