I like the style of writing where a character does the narration. It lets the reader get into the head of the protagonist. It comes off more mature in writing, in my opinion, than having the characters with endless thought balloons as done in early comic printings.

I like caption boxes too. I use them [i]a lot[/i]! But I'm reading a lot of 80s comics at the moment too and, to be honest, once you get used to them again, thought balloons can be just as effective. I find it's really a matter of how they're used. Thought balloons can be good [i]or[/i] bad but so can captions. (These are cool, by the way!) ;-)
