I've mentioned on a previous posted page that the first Uncle Doug story was published by Allen Freeman's Fan-Atic Press (http://www.fanaticpress.com) in their Slam Bang anthology. For anyone in any field networking is a primary tool for advancement. In this case, of course, we're talking comic books. If you're a struggling artist, writer, colorist, and so on it's important to meet people who have experience in your given field in order to learn from that experience. I met Allen through a simple comic book online chat. From there we began to IM (Instant Message) each other for the longest time just about anything in general and not specifically on comics. It was probably a good six months before we started working together on comic projects and have driven each other crazy ever sense. Eventually, I wanted to do some short stories for his anthology and that's how Uncle Doug became published.

I share the above story to tell you this. Networking is about making contacts and also making a bond with that contact. You should never make contacts with the question towards what they're going to do for you. Don't build artificial expectations. I network to build friendships and with those friendships wonderful working relationships have surfaced. So my advice to new comic book creators is make friends. Build relationships. Learn from each other. And when the time comes the meshing of those friendships and those talents will produce a story in the comic book form all who are involved can be proud of.
