Arthur and Raban obviously go a long way back. XD This is a fun page and I enjoyed it, but it always struck me as a little surreal, all things considered… Also, the DD awards voting aside, might I ask for your support by clicking one of those new buttons on the left, to vote for WM? Thanks!!
Most common social exchanges, or signs of being human, seem surreal when happening during war, but that's actually the good thing about them - they remind us that each individual is better than the inhumane role they're assigned by a bloodthirsty, dehumanizing system. These pages I just read up on were all excellent, establishing the characters as thoroughly human and relatable on both sides.
This is an interesting exchange. Yeah, as you said, a bit surreal given the situation, but it is also, at a distance, relateable. I think a lot of people are given direction/orders from a boss or superior that they know either won't work or will make things worse. Risk getting yelled at, fired, or worse by bringing it to the boss's attention? No way! You complain to an equal/coworker so when the s*** hits the fan, you have someone to shoot a knowing smirk to.
Great sequence. Two Landser (the German equivalent to G.I.) shooting the bull as they have since time immemorial. I'm certain Raban would have a Iron Cross second class ribbon in his button hole from just happening to have a spare butt for an officer during his service. (also called the Frozen Meat ribbon because anyone who spent a winter on the Eastern Front inevitably got one ) :D
