We've talked it over and decided…

“Look, if you want to use Ringo or any of the other characters created in CROSSOVERLORD, check with one of us first. If it's a simple cameo appearance, like nine-tenths of the appearances of the Watcher in Marvel Comics, for instance, we'll almost always grant it. However, we ask you to leave off exploring Ringo's origins or broad sweeping parts of the history of the Crossoverseers without checking with us first.”

The same applies to the Keepers, etc. Don't invent a new Keeper (there are only three) but casual cameo appearances, check with us first, but we'll probably grant it. We'll probably someday index a page to cross-promote their appearances in other books, so if you co-operate with us, we can bring you more hits.

We don't want Ringo to be quite as casual to use as Jenny Everywhere, who has a different self in each reality and contradictions can be easily explained. Al, at least, has an idea about the history of the Crossoverseers (Ringo's race) and their relationship to what Ringo's called the “Firstverse” that we may explore later.

We're afraid if we give a blanket permission to use Ringo in other strips, a la Jenny Everywhere and Red Robot, contradictions will naturally grow and soon overwhelm the character. We'd like a right to refuse (rarely) or suggest alternatives or guide his appearances, so Ringo remains a fairly consistent character. OTOH, we recognize that a Being who maintains the barriers between multiple realities might be useful for other webcomics creators in moving stories along.

So—check with one of us first. Nine-tenths of the time, we'll say “Sure!”
A small fraction we'll suggest or guide you to ways to make the character more consistent with his previous appearances. In a very few occasions we reserve the right to deny his appearance altogether. (If someone wants to use Ringo to orchestrate an interdimensional orgy…no, thanks. Don't.)

This way we can keep the character consistent and interesting for everyone, and like I said, possibly cross-plug it to bring in more hits for the ones who do use it.–Al
