Ugh, those prices!
Here, the bacon and ham are <$5 per pound, the Spam is around $10 for a 1-pound can, and the ham is ironically cheaper than the bacon, even though it's better meat with less fat and tastes as good fried!
Spam's quality food, compared to the cheapest canned... uh, allegedly nonvegetarian thing at our stores. I think it's gristle & salt. Maybe flavored cardboard & lard. You get a choice of 6 different pictures on the label, though!
Thanks for the ideas about jam and coleslaw :)
My fave for spam is with Breton Beans (lima beans, tomatoes, onions)

Spam.. not so popular in Denmark. however it can be used in pizza and others. the smell is a problem for us Danes which is ironic when thinking of we looove cheese. but i guess it takes time to get used to spam.
I heard Spam is really popular on the Appalachian Trail, one tin of it will keep you going for 5 miles or more. Amusing anecdote: in the devilbunnies AU, the bunnies take their human prisoners to Hormel and convert them into spam, so the fact that you like spam may mean that you're part devilbunny. AUs are great...
Spam is super-popular in Japan and Korea (which is probably why it's popular in Hawaii - immigrants and relatives brought it to the large Asian-American population there). After WWII and the Korean War, both countries were devastated and meat was almost impossible to come by. Except American GIs had a seemingly endless supply of Spam. So in those countries, Spam became a symbol of affluence (you managed to beg/buy it off an American GI). Totally the opposite of its reputation in the U.S. as a processed food made from junk parts of the pig.

Some of the store brand SPAMS are just as tasty and cost a lot less, I love to cut them in half and make spamburgers

Also, don't worry about what the cool people like, nerds know that it doesn't matter what's cool, just what makes you happy.
