SS6 02 At the funeral
skyangel on Oct. 29, 2016
Yes, it was dear old May who has left us, so those of you who were worried it might be Janey can now breathe a sigh of relief.
Next week: Our faithful duo attend May's wake and get to know her family a little bit but Sarah's not terribly impressed!
Have a lovely week :)

Barry: Thanks

Flamenco: I added the Gothic couple later in the week as I wasn't happy with the two people I'd originally drawn in but I wasn't sure how well I'd captured them as the pitchfork is such an iconic part of the original painting! His wife helped though with that particular look of hers.

Love the panel designs, especially the first panel with the tree looming overhead. I hadn't spotted the visitors. Great touch!

Nobody has commented on the two characters in the second panel from the "American Gothic" painting. Had to laugh when I spotted them!

Dark': Wow ! I love that previous life stuff - especially as it relates to someone else. I have past-life dreams (or used to), that recurred at regular intervals, never changing. My grannie (who lived with us) read her bible every afternoon. If I was there, off shiftwork, I would ask what she was reading and took it to mean. I always tell people bible studies made me an atheist, and it's said as a joke, but is nonetheless true B-)
DarkVisor at 4:54AM, Nov. 4, 2016
Nope, no truce, no need, we talk all the time: if have questions about the bible or Witnesses, she's fine with talking about it, well, she at least _appears_ to be fine considering tend to pull what she says apart half the time (hopefully it gives her things to think about) ... Personally not religious at all, have encounter too many things for that (like meeting up again with someone from a previous life {we both recalled things that could not be explained another way}, and another who has experienced the same dreams as me {viewed from a different perspective})

p.s. similar thing with Mormon exclusivity, in reverse- my wife thought I was being "odd" not going to the son-in-law's sister's wedding, until she realised she wasn't allowed in,and had to sit outside with a handful of others, then go to the reception. I like weddings too ! B-)
BearinOz at 9:00PM, Nov. 3, 2016
Hmmm...I don't think they were. I DO think it's a bit sad that you can't "break bread" with your own family, if they are 'out'. Seeing my friend's parents walk out of his civil ceremony, once they'd signed, was a bit depressing..but at least they turned up, unlike at another wedding. My daughter has married an ex-Mormon, so I'm associated with that lot, by marriage too. We have a 'truce' though B-) I hope you do with your Mum.
DarkVisor at 5:54AM, Nov. 3, 2016
Mum is a Witness, and yes, while there are some extremists (like in _any_ religion), most are not as 'popular media' would have them portrayed ......... Bear: maybe your friends slash colleagues are (or were) 'fucked-in-the-head' because, well, they are 'fucked-in-the-head' naturally and that is the reason they became _ex_-Witnesses
skyangel at 2:20AM, Nov. 3, 2016
Hiii! Good to see you again too :) Your encouraging words before the break spurred me on!

DV: I know JW's get a lot of bad press and it's probably mostly because of their policy of trying to sell it door to door which any salesman would find hard with any product these days, as people just find the technique annoying. I'm a non believer myself but I always respect the beliefs of others and can respect the value of believing in God through any direction. At the time of writing the script for Janey's mum, there had been a case of a mother with two small children who was losing a lot of blood who refused to have the transfusion that would have saved her on religious grounds. It made me wonder about a case like Janey's where the parents had to give consent etc. The saddest thing with all this though is really how well informed and understood such ideas are. You have clearly found out a great deal more about this than some others would even think of doing and it's often the ignorance that leads to such tragic stories in real life.
BearinOz at 6:45PM, Nov. 2, 2016
Hmmm....sorry, Dark'. but I know what they are really about. I've had 3 ex-Witness friends/colleagues over the years, and as far as my fucked-in-the-head friends go, they are tight up there, due to their upbringing and their disassociation with it and their subsequent relationship with family. Sad.

Glad to see you're back :) Artwork and writing is better than ever

Regarding Witnesses and no blood transfusions: it is possible to have blood-less transfusions, and it's not as difficult as many (including some doctors) believe. Generally speaking, it is safer with less risk of infections (and not having to worry about finding enough compatible blood-type). It just seems people like to make fun of (and mock) Witnesses without knowing what they are truly about
skyangel at 8:04AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Tommym: I had toyed with the idea of Janey dying a few times even as far back as when she first got hit by the van! It was only the idea that her mum was a Jehovah and might have tried to stop a blood transfusion that changed my mind, as to have her die as a result of her mother's beliefs seemed way too tragic. But you are right in that she's been such key player for so long that even I'd regret bumping her off now. She will get a happy ending. ;)
skyangel at 7:57AM, Nov. 1, 2016
DV: I did think most people would have a good idea from the point that she's probably one character few would miss the most, plus she was quite elderly too. I hadn't figured that the fear of losing someone more major to the story would create a mini panic, but it's nice to see some still regard Janey with affection. :)
skyangel at 7:54AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Moizmaid/ Phantom/ Ashley: Thanks :)
skyangel at 7:53AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Fred: Thanks:) The roses would probably have looked more effective against a miserably wet and grey scene but I felt rain and umbrellas for a funeral has become a bit corny so I asked Becky to keep the page fairly warm and sunny as it seemed a nicer way to finish with May, and she has done a really great job.
skyangel at 7:44AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Infected: Yes she was. We wouldn't have been seeing any more of her anyway but it does still feel a bit sad to lose her this way.
skyangel at 7:39AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Bear: My step-dad has also recently just recovered from Pneumonia too but it was a pretty close thing. Generally though it does seem like the success rate for recovery is much higher now than it was a few years ago.
skyangel at 7:33AM, Nov. 1, 2016
Kim: Haha yes, I see how you mean, and thanks :)
tommym at 2:54PM, Oct. 31, 2016
Dear Sky, BearinOz I was wrong also. Now that I think about it "with 100 percnt hindsight" Sky would never kill off such a major character as Janey. Hope you get better and stay out of the hospital.tommym

Had a feeling it was May :(
BearinOz at 7:38PM, Oct. 30, 2016
or " May; she rests in peace " ...sorry B-)
Phantomduck at 12:25PM, Oct. 29, 2016
May she rest in peace.
