SS6 14 The Curse of Carlingford 1
skyangel on Jan. 28, 2017
Because the crow caused so much excitement with each new appearance I was inspired enough to allow it's importance to become more relevant to the overall story. This side story is only about six pages long and I should mention that it's not a direct interpretation of Poe's poem or characters but more a tribute to them. I've written it from the same sort of dark perspective and sense of the macabre that Poe enjoyed so much himself and hopefully it will come across as a worthy tale of mystery and imagination!
Additionally I must also give praise to Becky for her excellent work on colouring this. I asked her if we could go for a more vivid contrast of colours for this particular segment and I think you'll agree, she's done a truly stunning job.
Next week: We meet Lenore!
have a nice week! :)

DV: I was going to mention him being in the first Star Wars movie but I couldn't remember what the name of his character was, so thanks for that! :)

Was going to say, most people would know Mr Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin
DarkVisor at 10:11AM, Feb. 2, 2017
George looks too young to be The Doctor, plus he doesn't have the scarf :D (no, not the seven foot rainbow, the _other_ scarf), and, more importantly, no Hairy Lip Caterpillar
fredhedges at 10:27AM, Jan. 30, 2017
Dr. Macabre's Theatre of Darkness, eh? No one looks very happy here... I'm not sure if Leonore has a scar on her face or if Raven the Crow has a bit of something in his beak. And yes wonderful job Becky - just that piece of L's scarf has a lot going on in it.
skyangel at 2:25AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Fred: Good to see you back again, I was starting to worry about you! Firstly yes, it is a scar. It was meant to go round to her eye but I seem to have missed a bit so I can see how it's confusing! Secondly, I was wowed by the colouring too. As for the scarf, I know, I want it too!

I'm constantly impressed with both the storytelling, panel layouts and artwork. Also a big fan of Becky's work on the colors. This page is really beautiful.

Barry: Likewise, I love your style too, and your lovely sense of humour!

Poe all the way! Awesome panels, especially the middle one :) I'm loving this story already *munches on popcorn*

Infected: Hehe I thought you'd like this. ;)

I've forgotten her singing friend's name, but The Carlingford Crows isn't a bad band name ! B-)
BearinOz at 7:08PM, Jan. 28, 2017
Ah, PBnJ beat me to that Peter Cushing comment ! Certainly panel 2. I DO love the procession of gypsy caravans, particularly out trans-Atlantic friend's rich palette on it and the next 2 panels. Haha ! Ironside - I went through both in my head - quite differing results ! I guess Homer DID do a "Quoth" thing in one episode I saw....but JEJ would give a nice atmosphere ( Sarah, I am you father !? B-) )
skyangel at 2:26AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Bear: His character was mostly inspired by Mr Cushings Van Helsing character in the old Hammer movies. He was also in several of the Amicus anthologies as well so it was fun to drag him into this. And yes, it does sound good. (Leo btw, but it has been a long time hasn't it!)

Oh wow, this is so good, the art, the story, the bird...I can't wait til next week! I can't believe some publisher wouldn't pay you for this, and you're giving it away for free sky! Thanks so much.
skyangel at 2:24AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Mo: You're welcome. It may pay off one day. It certainly makes my portfolio look better! :)

Not sure if the old man should have the voice of James Earl Jones or Homer Simpson.
skyangel at 2:26AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Ironside: Haha Homer's version is one of my favourites but I'll settle for James Earl Jones if Peter's still resting. :)

Oh I love Poe - this looks like it's going to be a grand tribute. Incredible artwork here (always is, but feel it should never be taken for granted)! That Wagon Train is marvelous!!
skyangel at 2:23AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Kim: I discovered Poe at art college while looking for something exciting to read in my lunch hour. I wasn't disappointed! I'm putting a lot of effort into the art too on this segment because I'm eager to capture a very dark atmosphere, but it'll drop back to my normal approach afterwards as I'm doing a great deal more shading than I normally do.

Let's quote the Raven.
skyangel at 2:24AM, Feb. 9, 2017
Phantom: But Quoth the raven 'nevermore!'
PBandJ at 10:11AM, Jan. 28, 2017
I also noticed a slight resemblance between George and Peter Cushing. Or am I reading into it?
skyangel at 2:27AM, Feb. 9, 2017
PB: Peter Cushing was always a favourite actor of mine anyway cos he not only played Dr Who but was also so great in the many Hammer movies he appeared in with Christopher Lee. He was also in a couple of the Amicus horror anthologies that first led me to the lovable EC comics 'Tales from the Crypt' and 'The Vault of Horror! So after recently seeing him in The Skull on Netflix I decided he deserved a tribute! ;)

"Respite- respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore! Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."
