Hello! My name is Anna and to be honest I'm very new at this. I'm a shy artist but as I get older I'm trying to be more open and accepting to what my dreams are. My dreams are to create a webcomic with characters that I've always had since I was in high school and to have people love them. My webcomic that I have created since high school is called Smoke from the Engine. Smoke from the Engine, which I've abbreviated to SFTE, is about two characters and their daily life situations and struggles. One is a girl named Vera, who always seems to get the short end of the stick in life, but always seems to see the bright side - no matter what situation she finds herself in. The second character, which is her “partner in crime”, is her pet ferret Sufjan. Sufjan is kinda grumpy, a smart-ass and doesn't like affection very much…oh and he always looks angry. With all of those qualities though, he does care for his owner Vera, even when she gets herself into a pickle (which she rather often does). Vera and Sufjan's daily life is very real to us, but I put more of a cartoonish take in it as well. These two characters and their stories are intended to reach out to readers who may feel like life is unfair to them and can hopefully (with my sincerest intention) find a little joy in my comics.

My style of art is black and white. I chose black and white because as a child I was inspired by one of my favorite graphic novels called BONE. My brother had this novel and I would sneak into his room as a child to look at it. Even though I was too young to understand the story through reading, I did understand what was going on based on the characters' expressions. For being just black and white the emotions they were conveying was quite “colorful”, to me. My brother ended up giving me that graphic novel and I still have it to this day. So as a teenager I tried to get my art out there through all kinds of forums. I never stuck with it or worse, I never believed in myself that it would get anywhere. After high school I floated around healthcare jobs and I even became a nurse but it's not what I really wanted to do with myself. I am married to my best friend who supports my dreams and I also have two lovable corgis. I unfortunately don't have anymore ferrets but Sufjan is all I need.
