Modern Moonlight (page 4)
Fitz on April 21, 2008
Gah! So much for regular Thursday updates ;) It's Tuesday and I'm almost a week late. And tired. Oh well, at least my bedtme didn't change - it's still 2am ;) So I am sticking to the plan on some level :P The good news is, the next page will be here probably next Thursday! Which, by the way, is a very important date - A Bit Cheesy's official birthday! So be there or be square ;)
No mice in sight on today's page. Instead, you get to see our old friend, the spider - and a beautiful butterfly. Which is not something you'd come across in a library - or this geographic region, for that matter. But it's PRETTY! And again, do not expect realism in a comic about a mouse in love with a human ;) I had fun drawing those icky beasties, especially that “wicked tongue” in the bottom panel. Speaking of which, I think it's my favorite metaphor on todays page. It just hit me - the image and the line at the same time. It was one of those “epiphanies” that REALLY help. And I spent an INSANE amount of time writing and re-writing the dialogues for this page. I went over them so many times I don't even know if they are funny or make sense, any more. Hm… But I'm happy with them :) Hope you enjoyed! :D
Speaking of which, do you love the guest appearance of the color red as much as I do?

Bocaj: The "computer stuff" comes from the good ol' WordPad. Never underestimate the simpliest programs, I guess :) My favorite is panel 1, was a bit of a bitch to complete, but it was worth it ;) And the spider vision was a lot of fun. Jeff: I think those tiny critters think and classify everything into two categories: "food" and "danger". I figured spiders, being natural predators rather than prey, would be more prone to think of everything as food. Nibbi: Thanks! I like its simplicity, it didn't take long to do and serves its purpose just right.

Love the last panel.
Coyotejeff at 8:37PM, April 23, 2008
Once again an outstanding strip. I particularly like "Butterfly = ?, ? = Food" I'm sure spiders actually think like that.
Bocaj at 10:43AM, April 23, 2008
Panel two is pretty awesome, as well as the spider perspective you've got going (For awhile!). Also all the computer stuff looks really good!

Vickie: Perhaps no better, but so much more sophisticated ;) I've never pounced, I'm too civilized to do that, so instead, I'm alllll about tricks ;) Tantz: Mice are simply experts in traps ;) And what good is knowledge if You can't put it to some good use? :) Abt: Hard to say with absolute certainty... There's this whole unfathomable issue of "Chemistry", which you can do nothing about: a woman feels this way or that way, and that's that. But what's wrong with coercing weak-willed women into dating you? How else can I get a date? LOL ;) Hmmm you like hairy chests more? ;) I like the f/x I used for the hair, it was a tricky one to do, took me a while to figure out the best way to do it. As for "Arabian Nights", you're spot on. One of the versions is "Tales from 1001 Nights" and I was actually wondering if anyone would get the referrence. So bravo! :) The digits could be interpreted separately, too: zero stands for nobody (which is Mick, in Ryan's opinion), one for someone (which even Mick could be, online). Zero turns into one - kind of "from zero to hero". Midge: Thanks :) I think the spider deserves his own comic ;) Gary: Yeah, knowing a person's e-mail seems to be the basic requirement, doesn't it? :) Amy: It always does :) It's just so... red ;) Trevor: The butterfly isn't exactly running ;) Dawn: Methinks they're both completely clueless about her :) But at least Ryan knows her favorite book! LBA: It's probably more difficult. Girls are shorter and guys have thicker fingers. But then again, how is it possible the other way around, anyway? :) RoyceMarie: Oh I don't think I'm skilled enough to do that :) So no, no gore galore ;) JMT: You have NO idea how many headaches that "mastery" costs me every time ;) Alcohol would make things SO much easier. Sadly, I don't drink ;) Nepath: Yeah, the spider's almost a regular in my comic :) And I do like drawing them. But there'll be more icky critters. Roaches... And a slug! Can't WAIT to draw that one!
Nepath at 8:18AM, April 23, 2008
more excellent depictions of spiders. You seem to have a bit of a flare for that!
jmt at 6:42PM, April 22, 2008
Very nice, you are the master of the double meaning, juxtaposing between the written word and the image.
roycemarie at 4:45PM, April 22, 2008
I really hope you don't show the spider actually eat the butterfly. The use of red is very nice.
lba at 4:31PM, April 22, 2008
I don't think it's possible for a guy to wrap a girl around his finger. That tongue is just fun to look at. It shows that you were feeling it.
dgriff13 at 11:59AM, April 22, 2008
yknow.. I was wondering how the hell a mouse got her email address. Methinks this advice-giver knows less than the lover. Excellent writing, very well thought out.
trevoramueller at 11:14AM, April 22, 2008
Another fantastic page here! Love the insects running around.
antcomics at 10:51AM, April 22, 2008
Yep, the red looks good. :)
Loud_G at 9:27AM, April 22, 2008
LOL Doesn't even have her email address! That's great :D
TheMidge28 at 7:33AM, April 22, 2008
love the comparisons here with the spider and the butterfly.
Abt_Nihil at 5:48AM, April 22, 2008
lol... a mouse trap! How nice! I'm not sure if you can do anything to influence a woman's choice, actually. I think you can coerce weak-willed women into going out with you - or more. But that's just wrong! :D I have to say, I love the hairy chest reference a bit more than the wicked tongue... but they're both extremely funny! One question... is that spider walking across the "Arabian Nights" book? I don't know how it's called exactly in English, but in German it's "Geschichten aus 1001 Nacht", and I think I recognize a 1001... which would go well with the dialogue about Prince Charming on a white steed. Oh, and red's cameo is appreciated! ^^
Tantz_Aerine at 11:55PM, April 21, 2008
Shouldn't mice not want to trap anyone just like they don't want to be caught by kitties? XD
usedbooks at 10:11PM, April 21, 2008
*Rolls eyes* Sheesh. Silly mice. "Trapping" a lady is no better than pouncing on her. Bad mice! I'm sure I can find some nice literal traps around here for them... *Evil cackle*
