it has been touched on a few times, I don't remember the details of what was said in this universe, but natural fear response for pooka is to shift into their form of strength, and in theory such an act would, if not heal it, to at least close an open wound. If he is focusing so hard on not shifting and letting his wound bleed that would lead to infer that the bite is some how toxic in which case natural bleeding serves best to flush out the system.. you know.. right up to just before the point you bleed out.
