At this point I wonder if he can even go back to his original timeline or if he is actually stuck in this timeline.

if I remember right (damb time travel) his time line no longer exists, so no he can't go back, but he hasn't faded because as a personification of death his existence transcends nihilism, so he just kinda exists until he decides to go some where else.. something something.. "and in strange eons even death may die"
