0008. Portrait of a Woman (Sibylla Sambetha)

CornTown on Feb. 3, 2010

By Hans Memling (1430-1494)
Circa. 1480
Early Flemish Renaissance

Hans Memling was the successor of the Flemish painters Jan Van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden. Memling paintings are so similar to his predecessors that it is often quite difficult to tell their works apart.
Nothing is known of the lady in the portrait (Sibylla Sambetha) expect that she is dressed in typical fashion of the era.
