By Jean-Honore Fragonard (1732-1806)
Circa. 1766
French Rococo

Though popular in his lifetime, Fragonard fell into obscurity for the first half of the 19th century. It wasn’t until the impressionists that Fragonard was rediscovered for his use of soft color, light brush strokes as well as his frivolous and erotic subject matter.
