One new development in Poser figures and mats was the introduction of SSS (subsurface scattering) resulting in VERY nice skin tones and detail. Unfortunately, I had created most of my characters with older mats that, while nice enough, paled in comparison to the new shaders and it really showed when mixing old and new characters.
Time for an upgrade!
It also gave me the opportunity to re-work her outfit (her original had way too many items that were pretty difficult to get to look right, lots of “poke-through”.
Oh yeah, and give her some bad-ass tats!

I've never made much use of SSS or Poser's labyrinthine shader system, though I'll admit you can get some pretty good results if you mess around with it enough. I always ran into consistency issues, though. True SSS is great, but takes a lot of time to render, while Poser's faux SSS shaders are basically "cheats" which don't respond to light correctly, and I've always had a hard time getting everything -- skin, clothes, environment -- to mesh the way I wanted it to.
