Boo - WW Day
DAJB on Jan. 14, 2008
Somehow, an exchange that Abt Nihil and I were having about myths (see the Shades forum thread) strayed onto the subject of Wonder Woman, which reminded me of this. It's a pic I made to help promote Wonder Woman Day.
Essentially, I just took one of Harsho's terrific images from Shades (Chapter 8, if I remember rightly!) and, using all my limited PhotoShop skills, I changed the colours. Sadly, I couldn't post it here back in October because, at that time, Boo hadn't appeared at DD. (But I'm still fairly proud of those stars!)
Oh, and if you've not seen Boo before, you might like to know you can see more of her in our main comic Shades (but not as WW, obviously!)

Alana: Ummm - I have to answer this very carefully because my views on Gail Simone's appointment have been misunderstood and twisted elsewhere! I am pretty psyched that WW is going to be written by GS, but that's because she's a strong writer, not because she's a woman. Personally, I don't care who writes the comic as long as the character gets the writer she deserves (and she does deserve the best!) The reason I say it that way is because I don't think it's true that only women can write female characters any more than it's true that only men can write male characters. In fact, Gail Simon was preceded by a woman writer (Jodi Picoult) who, in my opinion, made a complete pig's ear of it! It also irks me that DC have really manipulated and over-hyped the "first ever" angle of Gail's appointment. This smacks of trying to curry favour with the fangrrls and both GS and WW deserve better than that. In fact, there have been other women writers on WW. The aforementioned Ms Picoult was the most recent and I know that Mindy Newell (Catwoman: Her Sister's Keeper) pre-dates her so there may well have been others, too. That grouch aside, GS is apparently the first woman to be the "permanent" writer on WW which, as far as I'm concerned, is terrific news. But not because she's a woman! (Please don't hate me!)

Ha! Very cool. I'm pretty psyched that for the first time in ever, WW is being written by a woman. Natural fit, wouldn't you think?

Abt: Thanks! I heard about WW Day by accident. (Someone on ComicSpace posted a bulletin about it). You can use the link in the Notes above to find out more but, basically, it seems to be an annual event to raise money for Domestic Violence shelters (and how appropriate is that for Boo!) As far as I can tell, it's not officially associated with DC although - according to the website - they did contribute goodies to the cause, so I guess they must approve. And, no, I've not heard of a Red Sonja Day ... or else I'm sure Boo would be right there!! JNP: Heh - it was fun to do, too. (Although, not being too proficient in Photoshop, it was a lot more work for me, than it probably appears!) Pinkerton: Thanks!

I love it! I've heard of Wonder Woman Day, though I'm still kind of wondering (no pun intended) what it's exactly about. Is there a Red Sonja day too? I know someone who wouldn't have to dye her hair on that day.

HAHA Great job changing her into WW's costume! Funtastic!
