Back in the dark days before PCs, the worldwide wonderweb and Wacom tablets, we D-I-Y comicky-types had to resort to carving our masterpieces onto pieces of slate with a blunt chisel. Or, since blunt chisels were rationed in the UK, to scrawling with a ballpoint pen on illicitly obtained school exercise books. (Ah, the value of friends with access to the school stock room!)

This is the “cover page” from a vampire comic I made when I was around fifteen or sixteen. As you can see, in those days “cutting and pasting” involved actual cutting (i.e. with complicated machinery like scissors) and pasting (with, well … paste).
