Damaged goods.

In this world, a female doesn't have much in the ways of rights or an equal say in things. So a female's best bet is to find herself a husband who will take care of her. For a female to attract a male who will be most likely to take care of her and cherish her a female has to practicaly “sell” herself by showing she has “wife like qualities”. Her ability to preform both practicaly, (cooking, cleaning, raising children, good shopping skills, ect.) and sensualy, (Sexual performance, comforting, supportive, ect.)
The reason Mesi is so down on herself is because since she's had her tounge cut out and her left leg amputated she is viewed by most males as “damaged goods”. One way to think of this is like so…
You go out to buy a car. You will be expected to pay for and care for this car for the next 40 years. Do you buy the pick-up with all it's options installed, or do you buy the pick-up that's got the stereo removed and it's missing the driver's side door? Both trucks cost the same. Naturaly, most guys would buy the car with no missing parts. Of course you can't really compare females to cars, but it's just an example.
And before any hate mail comes my way, I have no problems with people who are handicaped. I just wanted to add some flavor to this story arc by introducing an amputee character.

Hey, I can't complain. I use handicapped characters to make things interesting. Take Surikit, she's a mute.

You know, I had a friend in gradeschool whom while not amputated, found numerous ways to break a leg or two. She could go a million miles an hour with her crutches, and it didn't hurt that she was way tall, too. So I'd be afraid to be mean to her. She'd probably kick my ass. XD

Ah Raool, ever the fox. But has he met his match? I love this comic!!! And I love the fact that Toshubi is giving those who are challenged a fair shake in his comic. Way ta go!!!

ouch, most people would have given up at that point

You say "in this world", but it's not so different in our own; sexual dimorphism, and what have you. (though women do have more rights than in the comic!) Raool's sweet. I like him. :)

What an interesting development. If she becomes a regular, (or semi regular) will she have some nonverbal method of communication?
Toshubi at 11:08AM, Nov. 15, 2009
Imperial: Yes she can. She just can't make very many words.

Amputee mute. Yep, that's a new one for me. Diversity at work!
