Huh! I guess I must be an odd girl, or I just have to much pride. I'd rather just grab Masato's hand and start for that bridge. Although I'm not about to disagree with the meat shield concept, or the fact that hugs are cozy.

It is non of these things. It's silly to think women need reassurance and comfort. For you see, during great emotional stress, the female will use up all her stored up emotion in an emotional burst, usually in the form of crying and shouting, sometimes violence as indicated in panels 1 and 8. Now in order to restore this emotional imbalance, the female seeks embrace from the male in order to drain him of his emotions. During the process the guy may feel some of the emotions the female is taking, such as comfort, love, and such. How every the man may experience confusion, horniness, and the natural male urge to try to fix things with power tools and sports. This would only interfere with the emotional transfer and make the female unhappy, so best to hold the unstable thing until she is once again rational. And it's a wonder why I am still single! (note: do not take any of what Dan says as fact. Dan does not truly believe in any of what he said in the above comment. So avoid storming his house with pitch forks and torches.)

MOrgan may be right it is the meat shield.. we do the same thing with kids.. its how we make sure you alive and thinking if you protest we figure your fine.. squeezing also helps us find out if you broke a rib..

You know, Eri, if you roll that guy off the ledge he won't get up... ever. ;-) To attempt to answer Toshubi's question, being held can provide comfort, reassurance & the woman can use the guy as a meat shield. ;-)
