P-51s had lap belts and shoulder harnesses. Whether a pilot bothered to wear the shoulder harness is another thing entirely but that lap blet was fastened if he wanted to perform any maneuvers because there was nothing else to hold him in the seat.
Essay bee: I guess you're right! After all, Hunter appears to be the sole survivor of an impossible trap, that must give him at least an A for effort :p Thank you so much about the great comment!
Dragonrider: You're right! But at least if the worst happens, he won't be awake to know it. Right? XD
Any landing you can walk away from is a good one, right?
Does that still count if you're knocked unconscious and walk away (or are carried away) at a later time?
Anyway, another great page. That second panel really looks painful, and the third panel does a great job of showing him going limp (not easy to do in a single panel).
Actually P51's had lap belts at best, not the 3 point harness used today. He's lucky he didn't go through the windscreen, if he's real lucky the cold will retard the fire long enough for him to clear the craft before it hits the fuel and ammo.

who says it's not fastened? it's still possible to hit yer head on the side of the canopy with the belt, or at least some old mavericks have claimed.
