These characters are playing using the Freeform Universal RPG System for simplicity sake.

The basic idea is that when you wanna do something, you've got to “beat the odds” on a six-sided die.
Essentially, there's six outcomes:
6-Yes and something else good happens.
5-No, but something good happens.
4-Yes
3-No
2-Yes, but something bad happens.
1-No, and something else bad happens.
