I don't know what this disease is called, or even if there is a disease like this. Basically his body is somehow breaking down it's own blood and he needs to refill it with new blood frequently. And he can only use Trivelina's because they are the same blood group or something like that. And I doubt transfusions are made like this.
But remember that this is medieval medicine. Il Dottore is smart, but he doesn't really know what he's doing. He only sees that this treatment works and sticks with it.
If it hadn't worked he would probably have made il Capitano sleep with a boiled toad on his chest!
This page was drawn at Gothenburg's Station. The police was there too, examining a suspicious bag somone had left behind. Big parts of the station was closed, but luckily there was no bomb. It's funny though, it seems almost everywhere I sit down and draw something interesting happens…
And yes, this page is supposed to be disgusting! I hate needles too…
And it has a cliffhanger…

I have no problem with suspending my disbelief, but if you want to know the truth: In medieval medicine, the only way he could have discovered that other peoples blood were no good were if they tried it and he died. Blood transfusions were a very last resort, and only done between close family members. Even then, fatal reactions were common.

Makes sense to me. I like her changing face. Reminds me of when kids go to the doctor. You know, before they know a shot is involved. "Hello doc, how you doing?" *Sticks in needle* "OUCH! Waaa! I don't like you anymore."
