The Magyars are the southmost Finno-Ugric people who migrated thousands of miles from the Ural River, finally settling around 900 AD in the Carpathian Basin, lands previously occupied by the Huns.
Most outsiders refer to the country with some derivation of the Latin word Hungaria, Land of the Huns; but the “Hungarians” refer to themselves as the Magyar, and their nation as Magyarország.
