YUUKI FANS! Hit the “Previous” button. Although we'll be seeing Yuuki quite a lot in this chapter.
Yep. Poor Hoodoo.
Remember how in Avengers/JLA, the Scarlet Witch was startled how much stronger the Chaos-magic was in the DC universe? This is like that –in reverse. She's in a strictly rational universe. Sorcerers derive their powers by tapping on mystical entities.
There ARE no mystical entities in this reality.
But, although she doesn't have her mystical energies, Hoodoo might prove to be tougher than they think…
Vector and Energize faced each other back in the introductory sequence with Energize. Here we have a first look at Eruption, also. (See? I TOLD you he'd be in this chapter.)
Wasn't trying to say you had to draw her like Essaybee does. Every artist is different. My own failed efforts to learn to draw pointed that out to me a long time ago.
Just commenting on poses I thought were a bit odd, from a reader's perspective..
And I'm nothing, if not honest in my opinions.
Al has some limitations, which are completely understandable, given his methodology.
On the other hand, he's stumbled upon some very aesthetically appealing techniques that should be pointed out. His rendering of the architecture of Vector's ship is really interesting. There's some great background perspective in panels two, three, five, and six. And the last panel is awesome.
I think Al would be the first to admit that his character art has a limited range, but it's really gotten a lot better. I know he uses reference material, but pages like this make me wonder how much of it he's actually using. Some of this looks like he did it free-handed, and it's ain't bad.
Plus it definitely has a charm all its own.
Tolrick: no offense taken. It's always interesting to draw other characters, but I can't pretend to draw Fusion as well as Essaybee, and everyone's tastes differ.
ya, al's style is a bit dirty, you'll notice the fingers are generally a bit off, but if you'd notice the portrait of suki in the bottom left is pretty darn good. al's stuff is the least comicy of the group, but like his stories is in the top 10, maybe top 5 on the web (as far as i've seen).
no offense, but I can't say I'm overly fond of how you drew Fusion here.
Specifically in panels 5 and 6.
In 5, she appears to be flying in from somewhere off to the right, but she was standing in that same spot not two panels prior. So where's that energy trail coming from/going to?
and in panel 6.... what is she doing? It kinda looks like the Curly Shuffle midair. I know she's meant to be flying, but um.... huh?
Hoodoo looks good, Energize looks good. The bad guys look good.
MM herself looks a little odd, but maybe that's cause I haven't read as much of her comic. She seems to pose herself oddly. Panel five looks a bit weird for her as well.
OK so Chant isn't there, and wow they actually remembered the Speed Force for the crossover? I'm pretty dang impressed, usually people forget where his powers come from.
Question number 3, is Vector a space-pirate?
I have to admit I gleaned onto this idea of a magic-less universe after re-reading my copies of the JLA-Avengers crossover and the issues facing the Flash and Wanda were uppermost in my mind when I suggested the angle to the CrossoverCrew...
Hoodoo situation is also similiar to Flash's in JLA/Avengers. When he entered Marvel Universe, he became powerless, because there is no speedforce there.
actually, Chant just sent them there... he isn't there himself...!
This is a great page from Al - one of his strongest on this series to date... it get's mega points for the crazy space ship interior, I would never have thought of something like that. And I particularly like the look of shock on Hoodoo's face.
did frank gehry designed the flagship lair???
(i know the name because I studied architecture not because of the simpson episode)
kriss probably chant has inner magic and doesnt borrow or manipulate the magic spectrum of that world or maybe he has the power to pull other dimension magical forces,

I like Al's art. It's different, and uniqueness is much more valuable than visual fidelity on the web, or in comics in general for that matter. :)

if thats true neil, then can we live in it? those resistant to the beiber fever may also prove resilient to other stupid fanaticisms, like twilight.

Kiss1989; pretty much. He has a fleet of ships (hence, flagship).
Neilsama at 7:19AM, March 29, 2011
Justin Bieber has no power in this universe.

No magic in this universe? uh-oh...

nice!

It really depends on the magical system as well. Some magic users essentially carry their "mystical entities" along with them.

Ah yes, I LOVE stories when different sets of rules for alternate universes come into play. ^w^

So a no-magic world? Doesn't that kind of nerf Chant?
