The Darkbringer, and subsequently “what Lightbringer did to him,” occurred in the latest completed storyline in Lightbringer. More or less Lightbringer absorbed the light of the sun and the city and fired it all in one concentrated burst, burning the front of Darkbringer's body as well as his hair. At the conclusion of the storyline, the Smiling Man recruited our dark-suited friend here and patched him up.
Subsequently, people may notice Darkbringer looks a little different here. Why? Well, Lewis is pulling the same “future storyline” explanation that I am. Fans will just have to keep reading to find out!
By the way, Remus discovered something cool in the Sydney Morning Herald. Although this has already by the time you read this, there was a cool alignment of the crescent moon and the planets Venus and Jupiter, producing a smiley face for sky watchers in Australia.
Hooli and Debbie never actually met, but Debbie did try (and fail) to save Hooli's life. A *sane* person wouldn't get upset by that...
But yes, as Neil said, revenge isn't the only reason to work for Smiley. The benefits are pretty good, too. :)
Excellent page.
and about the 'smiling heavens', I missed seeing a smiley face, but when I went outside last night and looked up, Venus and Jupiter had moved and it looked like a upside down frowning face.
Darkbringer is PARTLY motivated by revenge. He's certainly pissed about being beaten like he was, but he absolutely hated Lightbringer before that, anyway. His entire motivation was to destroy everything Lightbringer stood for because his philosophy says light is wrong. XD
Hooli may not have revenge on her mind, but that's actually for the better. Revenge is so cliche. We've kept the motivations rather diversified, actually.
While the other villains are motivated somewhat by revenge, there are other factors. The Crossoverlord is offering them something in exchange for their services. For Pink Flash, it's wealth. For Goldie, it's sanctuary. For the Sisters, it's the destruction of barriers between realities.
Dark Bringer is the only one who is specifically and exclusively motivated by revenge. ...Other than the Crossoverlord himself, that is.
Everybody in Grin's team has been selected for their lust for revenge. But what about Hooli? Does she have something against Debbie? They are the only two who've never gotten into a direct confrontation.
Nice smiley photo's BTW :)
