Wow. Just…wow. We've all contributed ideas to this project, but the creepy image of graveyards of doppelgangers, parallel selves that the Smiling Man snuffed, was mine. It's partly because I feel multiple versions of heroes tend to dilute the original. I wanted Mindmistress, for instance, to be the only Mindmistress out there. Also, I liked the creepiness of the image–like Ebeneezer Scrooge looking at his own grave. But I didn't anticipate how creepy Dan/The Red Death would make it. You all wondered how we were going to shock the Green Avenger out of Smiley's control… Well. Now you know. Again. This page just blew me away, thanks to the wonderful take Dan/The Red Death took on it. Thursday is yet another page by Dan, the cover of the final chapter, which we call “Endgame”. I've seen it, and all I can say is…George Perez, look out!
Oh, never mind. I see it's in Wikipedia, under comic book letter columns, footnote 12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_book_letter_column.
How I met my wife is mentioned in the section "Judging the Greatest" in the GREATEST SUPERMAN STORIES EVER TOLD, BTW. (We both were part of the group that picked the stories.)
You know, my brother-in-law just sold off a whole bunch of his childhood comics. I wish I had thought th flip through the letter columns before he had done that.
I'm the only oldster in the group. I was born in October, 1953. I can remember buying X-Men #1 (Lee and Kirby) and Spider-Man #1 (Lee and Ditko). (No, I don't still have them---or Daredevil #1, or the original Galactus trilogy or whatever.) Practically everyone else is at most half my age, I believe. I was a noted lettercol writer in the seventies, under "Al Schroeder III".
Now that I read everything below a second time....that was probably already noted. Durrr. -.-;
ah well... Happy Groundhog's Day!
ah well... Happy Groundhog's Day!
As creepy and effective as this last page is...I cannot help but notice the Beattles reference among the gravestones in the last panel. "Blue Meanie" My pop culture knowledge fails to detect if the other stones have different references upon them.
Great page! Seeing her name on a headstone accomplished what a thousand super-powered blows couldn't. Happy to have Green Avenger back on board with the team.
(Y'know, I actually have no idea how old you guys are....)
But anyway, are you really surprised that a guy who calls himself "theRedDeath" would make a creepy graveyard page? I'm totally creepy! Just ask my ex-girlfriends!.......Wait....that came out wrong....
My original art for this was actually a little different. Originally I had GA's elbows going out away from her body in the final panel. But at the last minute I decided that having her elbows pulled in, almost touching, would make for much more twisted and evocative body language. And I think that simple last minute change really makes a whole lot of difference in the final product.
I suppose it would have been a nice touch if Emerald Jade had been thrown in the line up of grave stones, but I didn't think of it until just now.
Still though, there are some nice easter eggs thrown in there.

Wow. I both love it and am horrified by it at the same time. lol. Great job, Mr. Death! Those elbows were definitely a good call.

By the way, did we forget to mention that this is the last page of the chapter? Um... yeah. It's the end of Chapter 7. Chapter 8 coming up shortly.

I agree, that elbow pose adds to the "scared to death"-effect.

I'M old enough to remember Fran Tarkington---but then, I'm one of the oldest webcomics authors out there.
