I think the witch wants more then to be persued or to win. At the end of their last fight she said "You're both coming along quite nicely." after stabed her though the heart. She is the sole reason Alec is in this time period and may have had a hand in Todashi behing in this country as well. Sally is also after her. She may be getting them ready for something she can't/won't do herself.

But why did she abandon the past if all she wanted was Alec to persue her? she could have that in the past.

Is it just me or does it seem like the witch wants to be caught, or at the very least pursued? I mean, it doesn't seem like winning is her primary goal, I suppose. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
