I totally agree! Each time it happened it sucked as all get out, but it DOES build character. I wouldn't be who I am today, and that alternative-reality me wouldn't be half the man I am, if I may say so myself. It taught me how dignity is the most valuable thing you'll ever have, and how to keep it intact, even when it's taken a beating. I consider it an important part of my current job to pass on to my students not to let go of it, ever. Like you, I can imagine worse scrapes than those I've been in, but they were enough. Btw. I must say that during my own time working at a hospital I was mostly treated as a human being, and got along well with most of the staff. Those who put me through this kind of shit in various stages of my life were somehow always middle-aged women with too set ways and too much influence. They didn't turn me into a misogynist, as that would be undignified and give them the satisfaction of confirming their views. I just got better at taking them less seriously.
