Danielle asks Amy if there is a place she and her daughter can hide. That would not only offer protection for Amy and Lizzy, it would also keep them from seeing Danielle at her worst.

There's usually plenty of places to hide on a farm. In fact my own basement would be a point in case. It's a former potato cellar whose only access is through a narrow passage covered by a wooden trap door. My landlord told me that the family who used to live here actually used it to hide themselves in May 1945 when the Allied troops came near, mostly to find shelter from the fighting. Turned out that Germany would capitulate a couple of days before they arrived, so it's hard to tell how well it would have worked. It did apparently work to hide valuables and food in the aftermath, though. :/

I've seen several stories of people finding hidden rooms in houses they have bought. Most times, it turned out to be unused areas closed off in a renovation of the structure. Occasionally, it was obvious the spaces were deliberately hidden. The older the house or building, the greater the chance of finding a hidden room. Just a few years ago, in our small town, a dead body was found behind a brick wall being removed for a remodeling project. The body had been there for a long time.

So glad I don't live on a farm; I am not a morning person whatsoever, and to have to already be engaged in laborous activity at 7:30am, I'd be a zombie, lol! And this being a farm, I'm wondering if Zoe's hiding place is some kind of a storm cellar or something. Either way, I'm still very nervous about what may possibly happen to them.
