@ D&P: I can't answer for the author but here is what is seems like to me. 1. They live in a world caught between the old/traditional and the new. The language seems like an extension of that idea, especially when you can see the problem more with the kids than with the adults. So sometimes the kid talk with respect, but not when they are emotional. 2. He doesn't hate her when she is a boy, he would hate her if she was just a rude little girl who doesn't know her place. I'm sure it was the great grandfather's idea or something, and it seems to have worked looking at how they've bonded now as compared to before. 3. As for jumping, I half-agree. They could spend a year fleshing out the intro and explaining a coherent world, but they've chosen to try to get to the action and let what you see tell the story while you fill in the blanks. I think its a legitimate strategy but I do love exposition.

This is an interesting comic... I like the plot, but there is one thing that doesn't rub right with me. It's the dialogue. At one point on a page they'll be talking like they are from WAY back in the day, not using "I'm" or "You're" or "Don't" or any other contraction... but then they'll be another part on the page where they'll use "Shit" or "hell" or Pompi will sound like a girl out of the 21st century. And I'm really confused about the relationship of her and her father. At the very beginning he seems like he hates the piss out of her... now it's like he's trying to do the best for her. And the whole plot jumps a lot... it's like you're hurrying through everything. You still get a 5 for amazing art and plot line. I just think you need to work out the kinks.

I'm actually reading this listening to Evanescence, it surprisingly adds to the reading experience (the song that came up while reading this page was "Everybodies fool" from the "Fallen" album, if it causes any curiousity to know which song was on lol) XD
