That's a trap I regularly fall into: I know my the character's name, so why communicate it with the reader?
Shaldë is her warrior childhood friend who travelled with her while she was on her scholarly expeditions.
I understand why the games do it, but for the immersion I always find it weird that these fully trained priests, wizards and experienced warriors start the game without gear or skill. That's why I liked Nightmare difficulty most in Diablo II. It's not too difficult and you start as a seasoned warrior with powerful skills and gear.
