Due East - Book Three Page 24
dueeast on Sept. 30, 2007
And so we conclude Book Three, our first full-color installment. I want to give special thanks to my wife (aka full_armor), Titan One and all of you who commented, rated or just visited these pages. You have all inspired helped in the production of the comic in different ways, and I am grateful.
This will be the only page this week. Starting next week, we will have once a week fan art, and you are gonna love these! :)
Okay, responses to comments on the previous page:
usedbooks: I agree. Honest, straight-forward conversations are the ones the hardest to get through but they can also accomplish the most.
Artwise, I am by no means settled on a preferred technique. I am sure I will be using variations of both the computer coloring and blended marker approach in the future.
ShinGen: Thanks. I'll look into those effects in Paint Shop and see what I dig up.
cameron11691: Thanks for the 5!
RabbitMaster: I like them, too. Thanks!
Tantz Aerine: I think this page will clarify exactly what Brielle was getting at. :) I'm glad you like the computer coloring.
kyupol: Thank you so much. Book One was a lot of “trial and error” and “see what works.” We didn't get a lot of feedback early on but we're pretty tough self-critics and we kept aiming for improvement (and we still are). Keep at the English and I know you'll succeed in what you want to accomplish!
JustNoPoint: Well, what do you expect to get from a place called “Cheapskate Pizza?” Great deals for great prices – if you don't mind what you're getting (kind of like online discount travel, y'know?)
Thanks about the writing and coloring. I think PSP 9 does have dodge and burn but I'll have to play around with it some to get the hang of it.
Us – leave you in suspense?? Why, whatever would give you an idea like that? ;)
Priceman: I remember those days, too. I never stayed in a dorm but had friends who did. I'm glad you liked the page, too!
D0m: That really means a lot to me, thanks. And hey, you can always go back and read the archives! :)
SilverWordz: Welcome back, my friend! Yeah, Brielle continues her point on this page. She's a very interesting character to write.
Being so new to coloring, every page is an experiment. I do like the crispness of the colors, too, but I don't want to lose the “real” feel of earlier pages. So we'll see what happens… :)

Awesome job. Very emotional. It hits home pretty hard at some points. Congrats on finishing up book three. Can't wait to see what else is in store. ^_^

Oy, actually, I am not sure how well dodge and burn will aid you. I forgot you don't have a tablet and those tools need some pressure sensitivity. Will be really interesting to see where the story picks up at after all this build up to the "finale". Knowing they are basically saying "We are doing this regardless. Art wise I never noticed the detail you put in the eyes till now. I like that. And I'm still digging this new color style.

Weee, thanks, I finally caught up, and just in time for the hiatus! :P I'm torn here, because the girls do have a good point, but Doug and Crystal have a right to do what they think is best as well. Honestly it would be no different if they were marrying someone else as well, as opposed to remarrying each other. And personally I think of the two girls, with Phira living on her own, she really can't get too upset over it all. Yes it's still her family and yes it's going to effect her, but not on a day to day basis really. Brielle has more concern there. Brielle's correct in saying it's going to take more than just renewing vows to fix the family, but afterall, I don't think the vows are the end all solution. It's part of the journey, not the destination. No simple action will fix the family, time will, time to build up trust and relationships again. There is no simple cure all for broken families. :)

Great work as always.

Cmon... they can work this out for sure.

I really like these two sisters! I think they are very down to earth and earnest. I also think that they do not need to make their family as it was before, but rather better than it was. ;) So good thinking. Can't wait for book 3!

This is definitely a two-sided coin. The girls have a good point, then again...the parents have been together long enough to figure out and understand the reasons they split and in that time, recognizing the feelings they do have, which will bring them together. That shading on Doug in that seoond panel is quite nice! Great arc here.

"Spur of the moment" is not something to be applied to marriage. o_o Not even (or maybe especially not) remarriage. You know, talking about it, considering the reasons you separated to begin with, all that stuff... Maybe I think to much. Oh no! No more story for a while! ; ;
