Due East - Book 4 Page 1
dueeast on Dec. 2, 2007
Let's skip back in time about 2.5 years! Yes, this story takes place shortly after the Brielle/Carolyn flashback sequence we saw in Book Two. And unlike Book Two, we will not be going back and forth between the past and the present. However, this story directly impacts the present storylines…you'll see!
Artistically, it seemed entirely appropriate to do a “prequel” story in pencil. I envisioned that from the start when the inspiration came for this. Now, I did attempt to do inks with the pencils and it took so much away from the feeling I wanted to convey that I computer edited out the inks (if you look closely at this page, you can probably figure out which frames were originally inked).
Our thanks to everyone who said such nice things about the Book Four cover. :)
Next update will be next Monday (I guess I'll have to adjust the title graphic).
In the meantime, why not check out the new collaborative comic called Off Hours? How often do you get to see some of the webcomic “actors” from Due East, Nadya, Purgatory Tower, Better Luck Next Time, Used Books, The Devon Legacy, Wolf and Aurora of the High Seas off the set of their “shows?” We're already on Page 3 of Chapter 1!

Very moody, lots of tension in this scene. Good job!

The pencil's look great, and I like the gray-scale shading (which comes naturally from pencils). It also adds some texture to your backgrounds.

Very moving flashback. It's very cool you did it in pencil, Kinda like they all went back to "the old set" to film this scene =D

youd least expect the fat one to say they're not hungry... (I got nothing against fat people I used to weigh in 250 lbs of fat. lol)

THROWBACK! Love the pencils from back in the day. And there's nothing quite like a back story to add layers to your plot. Carolyn and Brielle have always been interesting characters! Oh yes - just faved Off Hours...When I get sometime, I'll need to chime in and I cannot wait to throw in my pages!

I absolutely adore your pencils and this page is a real boost on expression. Kudos and well done. I dig this page. Also the arrested dialogue helps to get across the faraway (and depressive) mood!

I love the pencil style. I'm just a sucker for traditional media. ^_^ Lost appetite is often a bad sign, for sure. That and gorging. I've been known to do both when I'm feeling bad.
