Due East - Book 4 Page 3
dueeast on Dec. 16, 2007
This is officially Due East's 100th page! And this was a neat page to do. As you see, Carolyn and Brielle aren't the only ones who looked a little different a few years ago.
Responses to the previous page's comments:
Tantz Aerine: Thanks! Sad and pensive definitely describes Carolyn's mood. And it is kind of a fitting band name on the blouse, isn't it? Heh. I'll tell Angel you said that!
usedbooks: I'm glad you enjoyed it. Funny thing is, the long shadow was an afterthought, I just thought it was logical for the time of day. It's cool that it had a symbolic effect as well!
trevoramueller: Yes, Carolyn feels like she's out there by herself. But she's not, in more ways than one.
TitanOne: Thanks!
kyupol: I'm not quite sure what you mean concerning the perspective, but thanks for the comment.
blntmaker and JustNoPoint: Aerial shots are a challenge. I wanted to give a fresh angle for the splash page and this seemed to make sense, even though I knew it would be challenging. (And that Toyoya was a pain! :) )
Now, why not check out the new collaborative comic called Off Hours? How often do you get to see some of the webcomic “actors” from Due East, Nadya, Purgatory Tower, Better Luck Next Time, Used Books, The Devon Legacy, Wolf and Aurora of the High Seas off the set of their “shows?”

Wonderful page, and I love the older look. It makes the flashback look really authentic. And just like usedbooks said, Mingmei is a really nice name! Well done!

Brielle looks really pretty pre scar and long hair :} I have to say I know what it is like to lose a parent. Lost my dad to cancer. Looks like you were really "on" when you was drawing this. It's rendered very nicely!

The first two panels are great! Something about doing the 3/4 face shot that just adds the right dimension to the movement of a comic - sort of like watching a camera pan the room. You do it well because the profiles are always shoulder up usually. It plays like those really cool dramatic-continuity comics in the newspaper - nice touch! Old school pencils from you are always cool.

I can't even imagine losing a parent... Not at any age. Mingmei is a cool name, and this is a very nice page. I really like the full body views of people. You should use them more often.
