Due East - Book 4 Page 4

Merry Christmas, everyone! The story continues, no Christmas special this year (although you can check out Phira and Deon as part of the Off Hours Christmas page!) This was a challenging page but I was pleased with the way it turned out, both artistically and in moving the story along. It was nice to see Carolyn “get it” that Brielle really is there for her, no matter what.
Btw, there is a glaring yet cryptic pop culture reference (not Christmas-related, I did this page weeks ago) hidden in today's page. In the comments, someone let me know if you get it! :)

Rockstar1039 and trevoramueller: Thanks for the 5's!
Tantz Aerine: Thanks. We felt it was important to distinguish the characters from 2001 from the ones we see in the present, even though it's only a difference of 2.5 years. People can change a lot in that period of time. They can gain or lose weight, change hair and clothes styles, and most importantly, the experiences they have can shape their whole personality…and that will show in their facial expressions. And our characters have been through so much, it definitely will show.
JustNoPoint: I understand your loss. We've talked about that. There really is strength in numbers and just knowing there are people who have been through what you've been through helps a lot.
blntmaker: Thanks for the kind words. I want to experiment with more angles, poses, full-body shots, etc.
usedbooks: My father passed away from cancer 11 years ago, and no, there's nothing that can prepare you for it. On a lighter note, I do still occasionally have dreams in which my father is still alive – in the present – as if nothing had ever happened. I made peace with my dad before he died, so I think maybe that's a reflection (or a manifestation) of that.
I researched Chinese girls names online for a bit. I wanted to find a name that matched Brielle's personality.
Everyone, during the holidays, why not check out the new collaborative comic called Off Hours? How often do you get to see some of the webcomic “actors” from Due East, Nadya, Purgatory Tower, Better Luck Next Time, Used Books, The Devon Legacy, Wolf and Aurora of the High Seas off the set of their “shows?” Check out the Christmas Special!

Good page this one! I really like the interaction. It is not overly dramatic, but yet manages to be heartwrenching anyway. That is always a plus.

Allen, you do female faces so well--it really enlivens the talking head sequences. :)

Great page. The set up, emotions, and flow all work very well! I need to hurry up and get your html assistance under way as well so you can stop having to post banners for Off Hours and Behind the Scenes in your comments.

I like your pencil work on these pages.

You also do the best banter in a comic! This page is great! Those first three panels are a great transistion to what comes next...quite a natural flow of things! Happy Holidays to you! Merry Christmas!

Memories don't seem to help the mourning process for me... ever. The only thing that works is taking on a new hobby or project. -- Then again, I think I handle death better than most people. I think it partly comes from having lots of pets with short lifespans. (Of course, I've not lost anyone super close to me. My sister lost a very close friend recently. So did my brother. Both were young 20-somethings.)
