Last Filler: Epiphany!
dueeast on Aug. 8, 2009
Yesterday I really did have an epiphany! I was asking myself why I've had a problem moving forward with new pages of Due East for nearly seven months now…and finally, it all clicked: artistically, I'm happiest – and most myself – when I'm penciling! As much as I enjoy an inked and fully colored page of art, Due East needs to reflect all I can put into my pencils.
I want to thank JustNoPoint for his support as colorist and friend. JNP, I want you to know how deeply I appreciate your offer to color this whole issue.
You see, folks, this collaboration was supposed to help us crank out more pages of DE. But unfortunately, the opposite happened. Well, JNP held up his end of the deal. I just couldn't figure out – until now – why I'd had so much trouble holding up mine. But now I know.
I want to look forward from this point, however. I've talked with my wife about this and she's agreed. So, for the rest of this book and probably from now on, I'm going to draw the best finished pencils I'm capable of, with the help of the Lord.
I've half-sketched the next page and over the next few days, I should be able to finish the pencils, scan and letter it. I have more pages scripted, plus Angel and I have inspiration for the next several scenes.
I want to express our thanks to all of you – our incredible readers – for your support and love of Due East, for waiting patiently and for your kind words and sentiments. It is deeply rewarding to have your friendship and presence in commenting.

Hey, I've never been one to dislike some good pencils!

You've certainly got my prayers friend. It will be great to see DE back in full PENCILLED swing! I hope are doing well :-).

Hey, inspiration is always good, whatever form it takes! Looking forward to the new pages!

@usedbooks -- I think the reason why it feels like that is because usually soul-searching occurs before a writer/artist closes the comic. In this case, it was the reason why things seemed to move slow. Good to see you back in action!

hey. nice to see you back. I actually flipped back and re-read a few pages to refresh my memory. But for the sake of the lazy readers, put up a 1 page summary of what happened. lol :)

Your comments took on a weird almost farewell tone rather than a "let's get rolling again" one. XD I guess any kind of sincere soul searching explanations feel like a goodbye. I like the pencils. They have a lot of texture and character. I've been dragging my feet on drawing new pages too. -_- I want to get back to drawing UB (as opposed to all the side projects and collabs I've taken on to put off drawing UB). I miss it.
