35: In The Woods

I should point out that the Mummy mentioned here is the kind who brought us all into the world, not the kind who leaves it wrapped in bandages. If that's disappointing don't worry, your ancient Egyptian itch may be scratched in the next chapter!

Congratulations on your award nomination, this comic certainly deserves them! Nothing wrong with living at home with his mum either but I wonder if he leaves her 'gifts' on the doorstep from time to time like some cats do! *****I love the depth of view in panel four btw, I was looking right into that back room to see if I could make out something recognisable!
Ironscarf at 3:56PM, Aug. 18, 2024
Haha! Thanks, love the little gifts idea! Sometimes I experiment with a slightly abstract background like this in the hope that the reader will mentally fill in the details without anything to distract from the main action. I haven't quite mastered this technique yet!

Congratulations on your 2024 Drunk Duck Award nomination!
Ironscarf at 5:53AM, July 15, 2024
Ooh, this is turning out to be a surprisingly good day! Thanks for the heads up Niccea!
phinmagic at 10:28AM, July 10, 2024
Really good stuff! Digging it!!
Ironscarf at 5:11PM, July 10, 2024
Thanks Phin', that means a lot to me.
artdude2002 at 4:58AM, July 9, 2024
So... he's a house cat?
Ironscarf at 8:35AM, July 9, 2024
Exactly so! very domesticated, give him milk and cuddles and you've got a friend! Tends to cough up the occasional furball, but nobody's perfect.
plymayer at 4:40PM, July 8, 2024
Well, I certainly went for the ancient bandaged kind. :) Thanks for pointing that out.
Ironscarf at 5:21PM, July 8, 2024
No worries, I get it. There's no replacing our Mums/Moms, but there comes a time in every young man's life when he needs someone to unwrap!
Banes at 1:00PM, July 8, 2024
@Ironscarf - this is now what I'm hoping for. LOVE this idea!!
Ironscarf at 1:26PM, July 8, 2024
Sadly it would mess with the vampire lore I have in place, yet to be revealed. Of course, this is comics, so there's always the alternate universes and timelines!
Banes at 1:01PM, July 8, 2024
Well...maybe. Maybe it's not a good move. Up to you of course! xD - I'll be readin' anyway!
Banes at 10:59AM, July 8, 2024
"...and when I say 'Mummy', yes, I do mean she's a Dryad."
Ironscarf at 12:15PM, July 8, 2024
Heh! David could turn out to be the only ordinary person in Elmwych. Which I suppose would make him extraordinary.
PaulEberhardt at 8:09AM, July 8, 2024
Now I wonder if Mum sometimes has to carry him home by the scruff of his neck...
Ironscarf at 8:25AM, July 8, 2024
Haha! that's perfect! I may have to borrow that line and if so, I will credit you of course!
Othosmops at 6:55AM, July 8, 2024
He doesn't have to live in the forest. It is enough if he has sufficient appetite.
Ironscarf at 7:14AM, July 8, 2024
Absolutely right, and being a shape shifter living in the woods brings its own problems. When it's time to become human and put your clothes back on, they could be full of squirrels, if you're lucky, or hornets if you're not.
marcorossi at 5:35AM, July 8, 2024
Well cats are matriarchal so it is normal that he lives with his mum.
Ironscarf at 7:03AM, July 8, 2024
That's a very good point, which I hadn't given much thought to - it just seemed the right fit for the character. My suspicion is that big talking werewolf Griff also lives with his mummy.
bravo1102 at 5:30AM, July 8, 2024
So it doesn't live in the woods. Spends some time there and that's where people see it. So it's a natural mistake to make thinking it lives there. I mean it is a Panther and people generally don't keep them in their basement (except the crazy tiger lady in New Jersey but that's different)
Ironscarf at 6:06AM, July 8, 2024
This must be why despite all the sightings, nobody ever finds these big cats in the woods or on the moors when they go looking for them. As this is the UK, basements are even rarer - maybe a damp coal cellar if you're lucky, but most cats would not thank you for that!
Jamie59 at 5:20AM, July 8, 2024
So Panther in the Basement.
Ironscarf at 6:02AM, July 8, 2024
That's about the size of it, though I haven't read that book. My understanding is it's not about a real panther?
