Fusion #3 Page 1

Here's page 1 of Fusion #3.
I forgot to mention last week that I change the page size with this issue. Issues 1 and 2 had standard magazine-sized pages, and Issue 3 has standard comic-sized pages. I've kept the page width the same for web posting, so the new online page size is actually a bit longer. I've also started using different line widths and font sizes. Hopefully all of these changes won't be too noticeable or detract from the readability. Also, as you'll see on the next page, I've also decreased the size of the gutters between panels (to about half the size of the gutters in the first 2 issues).
Many of you may also be pleased to know that this week will mark the beginning of twice weekly updates. I'm hoping to be able to post on Tuesdays AND Fridays for at least this issue. We'll see if I can keep up with the increased workload. If things get too hectic, I might skip a Friday update here and there, but I should always make my Tuesday updates.
Also, the print version of Issue #1 just went live. If anyone is interested in ordering a copy (just $3.99), you can get it at http://www.indyplanet.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=3651
Anyway, regarding this page (and probably the first 15 pages of this issue), I've been breaking the page up into different elements. For this page, the buildings are 1 element, Grasshopper's another element, the debris in front of him is another element, Fusion is another element, Brooder is another element, and the foreground debris is another element. (By “element,” I mean they're separately drawn and colored, then composited onto a single image–i.e., this splash page). All this so that I can draw dust and debris clouds between each element to try to give the pic a sense of greater depth.

Maybe he's like Popeye, only with cuss words. Maybe after a few f-bombs, he'll be back on his feet.

Wow,that's a lot of work to seperately draw them all out then put everything together.

I'm sure X-Pletive's report said a bit more than that, heh. Great page. Making changes to your comic in the name of improvement is never a bad thing.

Oh I hardly noticed the changes, great page!

I want to see X-Pletive's sister, X-Rated... Nice page!

Nice dust. I find atmospheric particulates very hard to draw digitally. :)

Bring on X-Pletive.

Yeah, that's how I do my comics, everything on the page is a seperate element. It takes longer, which is why I have trouble making timely updates, but overall it's much easier to add the effects that I want for everything on the page. Also, I can't wait to finally see X-Pletive.
