Fusion #4 Page 34

Here's page 34 of Fusion #4. Regarding comments last page about their perception of the outside world (i.e., that X-Pletive would seem to be moving in slow motion), Speedsters in Fusion's world perceive time the same as regular folks. They do have fast reflexes, but “outside” time doesn't seem to be slower to them; regular conversation passes at the same speed (none of that super-speed-speak of some other comics–because super-speed-speak would mean that their brains would have to operate at super speed as well to both formulate the words and interpret the words it hears, meaning Speedsters would have brains operating like some super computers–at least that's my take on it). Basically, Speedsters are just regular folks who can move really fast and have no altered perception of time–as well as some major insecurities that make them blind to everything else (as evidenced by Brooder's strategy).

There are some bugs who move so fast they see the world in a blur as they go by, and have to stop for their vision to catch up to them. I could see this being a speedsters biggest problem, other than flatulence, which is pretty darn creative.

This is just too funny!

Farts only equal jet propulsion at such speeds, when they light up a lighter behind them. As they fart.

only al schroeder would make a fart propulsion joke

If the flatulence came out fast enough, it could even give them added speed. Sort of like jet propulsion!---Al

well played, i was truly stumped on that one. it makes perfect sense, yet comes out of left field. also, far more subtle, are the words chosen by x-pletive. aside from the swear words they are actually rather clean, especially for one talking about farts and the mental issues around such things. i knew you would come through, and you did such quite nicely i might add.

@smkinoshita - In Mutants and Masterminds, Friction Control is a power. I made a villain, Rug Burn, where that was his main shtick. He increased mu on the teams Paragon (flight, invulnerable, strength, speed) named Pinnacle. The friction was so bad that while Pinnacle was strong enough to still move, albeit at lower speeds, he was literally damaging himself in the process. He wound up KOing himself less than a foot away from Rug Burn. Nobody laughed at his name after that.

I never thaought I would see the day when I would be reading a comic wherin a foul-mouthed superhero exposits on the nature of speedsters and farting. Win. just... win.

Speedsters must be pretty common in Fusion's world. The only speedster-style character I have in my 'active' roster uses time-manipulation where she slows down time around her. It gives her the appearance of super-speed and super-reflexes -- but using this ability drains her resources so she can't do it for very long. It actually forbids her to run a mile away in a second, because her time-manipulation won't last long enough for her to actually run a mile away. On the plus side, it limits her abilities and also means I don't have to explain why she doesn't burst into flame from friction. Speaking of which -- ever considered including friction-manipulation as a power? Think about it -- increase the air-friction around yourself so bullets simply burn up before reaching you. (Or reduce it on yourself to zero for matter-surfing)
