Fusion #4 Page 36

Here's page 36 of Fusion #4, and it looks like the security system is perhaps more advanced than Brooder originally thought.
I finished the scripting/layout of the rest of this issue, and this issue will be 48 pages long. (I was originally aiming for 44-45 pages.)

Power up!

I agree, but I think X-Pletive is being tested here too, though more to see how he handles new heroes than to test his own capabilities. Will he jump to Fusion's defense if this attack proves too much for her? Will he make dumb moves to cover the novice? Or will he do his own thing and forget entirely about backing each other up? X-Pletive has, so far, seemed very much a non-team player. It makes sense that would be what he's being watched for. Which makes Brooder being the observer all the funnier. Of course the certified lone-wolf hero is the one to see how well others play as a team.

I do love it when guns flip out of walls like that!

If X-pletive gains strength from verbal obscenities, he better start cussing up a blue streak.

i wonder if brooder is testing xpletive as well, as he did bring him along, and their is a chance that he may step in and steal savunn's thunder. though i am curious as to the other security devices in effect. for one thing what ever is hidden here would have to be extremely well hidden, as the guards and guns give away that this place is important. it would seem that i just noticed how much savunn's height shifts to fit the shot. she is always shorter than the adults, but by how much changes by several inches. though since i am just now noticing means that it has been done well.

smkinoshita--Speaking of Brooder's costume and Batman, Brooder's stomach plates were inspired by the suit from Batman Returns. And more about his cowl will be revealed sometime during the next story arc (starting next issue), where we'll learn a lot more about Brooder (as well as some of the other heroes).
smkinoshita at 10:45AM, May 24, 2011
Completely off topic (since the main one's been covered) but am I the only one who thinks that Brooder's costume makes a lot more sense than Batman's? Well, at least originally... the modern Batman has gadgets built into the cowl.

Regarding Brooder's "response" . . . You guys caught on--Brooder's indeed watching Fusion's response. Also, zodo is close to the mark, except Brooder doesn't have a trick, just a contingency plan in case Fusion doesn't respond appropriately. (Unfortunately, Brooder won't let anyone know that he has a contingency plan in effect, let alone what it is. I may or may not tell you what it was next page in the comments, since Brooder isn't likely to divulge his secrets--especially since, in this case, it would defeat the purpose of Fusion handling the situation.) Regarding Fusion powering up . . . This transition look was established on page 12 of Issue #1 (and used again on page 16 of Issue #1, page 20 of Issue #2, and page 8 of Issue #3--although you can't see her eyes in that last example). Basically, her eyes and suit (since the suit is generated by her powers) glow, then her hair ignites. (Why does her hair glow last? I guess because hair cells are basically "dead" cells and not a part of her "living" body.) At some point I'll probably do a fully revealed Savunn-to-Fusion transformation (I've had the sequence storyboarded for some time), but I'll have to wait until I can figure out a place where it will work.

Who said these guns are shooting bullets?
dragonestea at 10:17AM, May 24, 2011
Who wants to bet that brooder removed the bullets already?
Loud_G at 10:15AM, May 24, 2011
I don't htink she has much to worry about bullets :)

Well my guess would be that he programmed it this way to see her response. Seeing that they don't want to attract too much attention, she can't allow it to fire. However blowing it up would be a bad idea too. Should be fun ;p And Alschroeder; it was the first thing I noticed. I actually think this looks better then the fully powered up state. Actually makes me wonder; why would the costume power up before the hair. If the fusion comes from within he body including her hair should fuse first. Can't wait to here this explains as it intrigues me. Anyway great page.

Perhaps since she has been shown in the semi-state in CrossoverKill, it's being established as canon. Curiously it's Brooder who is the most bulnerable to machinegun fire... I assume he has some trick up his sleeve.
darth_paul at 9:05AM, May 24, 2011
I think that Brooder is watching what she is doing so that he can gauge her response as part of his constant testing.
alschroeder at 8:56AM, May 24, 2011
First time I remember seeing her powering up in a halfway state, with eyes and costume glowing, and not yet the hair. Brooder is the only one who seems unconcerned, though.
