Fusion #5 Page 7
EssayBee on Nov. 29, 2011
Here's page 7 of Fusion #5, and we find out just who that screaming fireball from last page is. For those who don't remember, back on page 43 of Issue #4 we learned that Edward Van-Isaac Lord created Thermo by splicing genetic material from Flamer into one of his henchmen.
EDIT: Uploaded the revised page (which will be in the print copy) that inserts a transition first panel and slightly tweaks Flamer's dialogue in the last panel.

I get that he's gay, but reading his lines to me it's also as if he's got a bit of uppity British aristocrat in him. LOL!

maycroft--No Bob-like entity. Remember back on page 25 of Fusion #4 (http://www.drunkduck.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/5313234/) that Psy-Girl of the Fab Five can set up psychic links--that's what Flamer's talking about (and it's how the Fab Five stay in contact with each other during ops).
maycroft at 8:25PM, Dec. 4, 2011
Wait, so the Faboulos five have another entity like Bob working with them? I'm kinda lost.
jamoecw at 1:17PM, Dec. 1, 2011
completely forgot about that.

jamoecw--Actually, as Brooder suggested earlier, Thermo and Crosshair underwent a sort of gene therapy--they were already full-grown men (and loyal Lord henchmen)--so their upbringing wasn't really a factor as it was with the fully cloned Major Power.

it would be interesting to see if thermo ends up being flamboyant. after all the organization is responsible for not only his genes, but also his upbringing, which would provide great insight into the mentality behind the program. i think you did mention that the suit was derived from what she felt would be proper hero attire for her, based mostly on the fab 5, though i could be mistaken.

Something like— 3... 2... 1...

shastab24--Yeah, the name kind of necessitates that combination. Even though the term is generally considered derogatory, there's a reason Flamer uses it. (Probably not too hard to figure out, but it's a question that'll be asked in his interview.) I don't think Thermo's gay (unless he's a closeted, self-loathing type, which could explain his violent tendencies).
EssayBee at 6:39PM, Nov. 29, 2011
zodo--You hit the nail on the head. I wondered if anyone would pick up on that.
shastab24 at 4:16PM, Nov. 29, 2011
Actually, that would add interesting layers to everything if Thermo was also gay. And I do want to see more of Flamer. Interestingly, a comic I follow, Pride High, was originally going to be a different concept than what it is (it would have followed adult superheroes as opposed to the high schoolers it does now) and would have had a character called Flamer, a gay man with fire powers. Just an interesting coincidence.

thanks for the link!
zodo at 12:08PM, Nov. 29, 2011
I had a strong suspicion all along that Fusion modeled her costume after the Fab 5. There are obvious design similarities. Bob must have pulled the design from her subconscious to figure out how she would want to appear as a superhero.

Al and dragonestea--Yes, Flamer is gay. At some point (maybe during this issue), I'll start posting various magazine articles (by Captain Stupendous's girlfriend, Alanna Alliteration--see end of Issue #1 for her first appearance) featuring interviews with some of the characters. The first of these articles would probably be an interview with Flamer.

Ozmandious--Last panel of Issue #4, page 43 (http://www.drunkduck.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/5343135/).

Flamer is......... a flamer. That is hilarious.

Looking forward to meeting the Fabulous Five as a group. I take it Flamer is gay, from the "dishy" Grasshopper comment?
Ozmandious at 8:10AM, Nov. 29, 2011
could we get a link for the above explanation? For the life of me I cannot recall that back story. Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative!

introduction was in order
Mr Kaos at 6:24AM, Nov. 29, 2011
they are in for a surprise with Bob. :)
smkinoshita at 6:13AM, Nov. 29, 2011
This reminds me of when a buddy of mine and I would play Starcraft and I would call the firebats "flamers". Every time I did it, it killed his concentration. This would be beneficial if we weren't playing co-op at the time. Now I knew the implications of the nickname but this comic takes said implications and just runs with it. :D

God of War--You're right. Shoulda done a 1-panel transition. If I get a chance (and time), I might redo this page--shift the content of the first panel to the right (there's lots of dead space I can close up) and add a new first panel with Flamer getting the fireball under control. May not get to this for a few weeks, though--got a lot on my plate at the moment.
God of War at 4:52AM, Nov. 29, 2011
Okay, this seems odd to come after previous page, the one moment she sees the guy as a fireball the other they are talking to each other.
